tranny problems

hi guys and gals back again with a 2-3 Shift Malfunction. Just bought the truck 2 months ago and have had the idiot light on the dash go on and the column overdrive come on and flash. the filter was very dirty and the magnet had lots of shavings on it. they said the tranny was fried but i don't have the $3,000 for a rebuilt one. I'm having them change the fluid and hope for the best for now, any suggestions?

More details are needed for the experts to answer your questions.
Details like how many miles, what year of truck, auto/manual, DRW or SRW, and exactly what is it doing when you are having the problems, what speed, rpm and so on.
Any detail that you can think of to help nail down the issue.
I hope its not the tranny too!

tranny problem

135k miles, going up a long grade truck runs fine on cruise but the tranny light in the dash comes on but then goes off after a while when going back down, rpm 2k at the most once in a great while the od light on the shifter comes on and it shifts erratically but that is under different conditions. under all but the od light conditions the truck runs and shifts normally. like i said before i just bought the truck so who knows when the fluid was changed last. the filter was very dirty and lots of shavings on the magnet.

...uh oh... I've lived through this one - even if my wallet didn't. Flush away, but don't tow anything and maybe it will make it until after you've found some things in the house to sell on Craigs List.

That suggestion of mine totally blows. Maybe someone has a better one?

Doesn't sound good, a plugged filter, shavings, man, I'm feeling sick now and its not even mine. A bump for a trans pro, good luck.
