What is (if any) the difference between a carb. for an engine with a thermactor and one that doesn't have one? The reason I am asking is I found a NOS Autolite carb for my "66 240 manual tranny But it states that it is for a 240 manual tranny with Thermactor. My truck was built in Canada and doesn't have a Thermactor or any other emissions control. I asked this same question on the '66 forum but I got no response. I am on a budget rebuilding this truck and don't want to buy something I can't use.
Thermactor = air pump. I doubt there is any difference in the carb, although it may be jetted a touch leaner. There may also be a vacuum connection that isn't on the non-thermactor carb.
Thanks ALBUQ F-1 The thermactor is part of the emissions (smog) control system installed onto the 1966 -67 FORD Automobiles. It was mainly used on vehicles built in California. It is a forerunner of the catalytic converter. I just wasn't sure if the carburater could be used on my truck which was built in Canada and did not come with the Thermactor installed. And no it doesn't have anything to do with the Flux capacitor or the overheadtransotropic sump shaft. Those were installed on CHEVYS!!
