Appears the sensor circuits could be out of range. The first thing I'd try would be to clean the egr to make sure it has full travel. Cleaning procedure should be in the tech folder.

Those are EGR codes. Did they just pop up or were you towing up a long hill? Need some more info. I had the same thing. FoMoCo changed oil cooler under warranty and after the warranty I still had them during long uphill pulls. Started with a CEL(check engine light). Deleted EGR valve and cooler. Bought a programmer to cancel the EGR valve removed lite. Still have the EGR valved plugged in though. Runs like a scalded ape uphill, as in towing 8K toy hauler it will accelerate. No codes in appx 9 mos.

As I said, the cheapest and easiest thing to try first would be cleaning the egr. Get new O rings from Ford.

Several people on another forum have argued that the P0405 will be thrown with an EGR delete. Is that true?

That might be true if they leave the valve out or unplugged since it is a circuit code, but I've never heard that before.
