MODs Suggestions

Hey all,

I'm new to this Forum. I have a 2007 F250 Lariat/FX4 Supercrew 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel. I've been wanting to do some engine Mods to increase MPG, Sound, Health of the engine. I've done some research on different Performance Chips, Exhausts, Intakes, and other things. Could you all give me suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

1. EGR Cooler/Delete
2. Head Gaskets
3. Head Studs

-----

Now we move on to other stuff..
Get an exhaust on there first. Then get some gauges. EDGE CTS is popular.

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it alot. Do you have the Edge Tuner/Programmer? If so, how do you like it?

Only run edge if you have the manual tranny. Otherwise you may have problems with the torque shift.

I wouldn't recomend the EDGE for any thing other than gauges. The CTS without the tunner is a good setup for gauges. If your going to tune it, then stick with a well written custom tune. That's the only way to go on a 6.0.

As far as better MPG....Good luck! There's not really much you can do that will get you an actual gain in MPG (without spending big money on changing gearing ect..).

Here would be my list of mods to a 6.0, In the order that I would recomend

1. Gauges. You really need a good set of gauges, digital or analog is up to you. Keep in mind if you go digital you will need to either install analog gauges for fuel pressure and EGT's, or get a digital gauge with the option to add external sensors. As there isn't any sensors for those two stock. The best 2 digital gauges (OBDII) that I know of with this ability is the edge CTS, or the Dashdaq

2. Install a coolant filter

3. 4" turbo back exhaust

4. Depending on the fuel pressure your getting, and your future plan, either install the blue spring upgrade, or a regulated return

5. A good custom tunner. Either the SCT with custom tunes, from Eric at innovative diesel or Matt at gearhead automotive performance, Or get the Spartan Phalnx with there custom tunes. The Spartan tunner is more expensive, but it comes with the Dashdaq and you get what you paid for.

That's where I would start with as far as Mods go. Some will say don't tune it without head studs, but I don't fell that's the answer. These turcks can and do strech the factory bolts stock too. If you do have to go deep into the motor for any reason then Absolutly install ARP head studs at that point. As far as the EGR cooler goes. Here is my advice. Leave the EGR cooler alone, and if you fails (yes if not when), install a BPD egr cooler. They have very few to no failures, Lifetime warrenty, and your truck will still be leagle to drive on the HWY.

I fell like i'm forgetting somthing, but just can't think of what right now. I haven't had much sleep these past few days. So if I think of somthing else I will update.

Above you mention to get a custom tune from Innovative or from Gearheads. Who is better or why one over the other? If your looking at a tame non-studded 6.0L...

Innovative and gearhead have the best reps when it comes to tunes for the 6.0. So I will only suggest them. I run innovative tunes myself, and did for 30-40K before I was studded, without any problems. I only studded because it was something I had planed to do, not because I had too. I do think that ARP's are a very good investment. Just don't think of it as a you have to do before you tune type of thing.

As for gearhead. I have not run there tunes....Yet, but they have a very good rep on here. I plan to give them a try the next time I get tunes. Hopefully later this year. I normally wouldn't recomend someone that I haven't personaly tryed, but there are guys on here with great reputations that swear by them.

who ever you get tunes from, just be sure to tell them that your not studded and they SHOULD write the tunes for a non-studed truck to be safe.

Thanks! Thats what I was looking for was a personal opinion. Ive read about both of them and its all postive. I originally was looking at DP since it's what I had on my 7.3L but seems like mostly Innovative or Gearheads are preferred.

Again thanks for your opinion.
