I have found the number on a place that does carter carbs it says the kit is ck238 and the float is f 17. Does this tell you anything? It says you can order kits off the site.

Neither of these numbers are Ford related. Auto-Lite & Motorcraft carb kits have a part number prefix of CT. There is no CT238 carb kit listed for this application / The floats Auto-Lite/Motorcraft part number prefix is CM
1973 and later: The ONLY way get the kit part number: Using the carb ID chart, the carb ID tag number decodes to the carb and carb kit, lists the carb parts list.
The carb kit is not listed in either the carb application charts nor the carb parts lists. Since you haven't the carb tag number, I cannot look up the kit, nor the float.
Back to square one.
I have no idea if a replacement aftermarket carb is available or not, or even if one was ever offered. I never dealt with aftermarket parts when I was working as a Ford partsguy (retired 8/1997).
