Made the trade....

well the ol lady talked me into it last weekend. traded in the 96 f350 460 big boy for a 05 F250 6.0 with 115,000 miles. it has a k&n intake, and silverline full 4 inch exhuast. any help on what to watch out for? the truck is stock with stock rubber, no goose neck or wear of any kind on the hitch....? it is wired for an amp behind the seat with speaker wires, i figure a wanna be young guy must of had it lol all in all she is super clean but just started throwing the EGR code? Im looking a superchips, or edge programmers, anythoughts guys? thinkin of superchips cause the lady has a 02 X with the 7.3 and getting the multi vin thingy. both rigs are stock, the most the truck is gonna pull will be the bass boat. I have read up on the head gaskets and have the 2 year warrenty, just incase i found a kit from MKM that deletes the EGR and has the aftermarket stronger head bolts. but of anything...... she's a freakin BEAST!!!! blows that 7.3 away lol

Congrats on the new ride

SCT Tunner is the only way to go for a 6.0L with the Torq shift trans.

Bulley Dog and Edge tunners are Bad on trans in these with BD being the WORST

Best thing you can do at this Point is change all Fluids and use only OEM Filters

And get some gauges going there are a few things to watch for Especialy in 05+ Get A scangaugeII will cover everything except Fuel Press and EGT both of those have to start from scratch since no OEM senders.

ScanGaugeII Plugs into the OBDII Port

Things to watch are
ECT vs EOT
IPR% and ICP
Both of those are VERY important to monitor

Edge will blow your tranny quick.

I would NOT tune it...unless you have headstuds....

No tune is safe for a stock motor

I had an edge evo tuner for the 7.3, economy freakin rocked on it but then i read all these reveiws and took it back. Im not looking for a hot rod tune just the economy, all i pull is a bass boat behind the rigs. I fully agree about the head studs, damn weak link. but as far as ECT, EOT, IPR% and ICP, i have no clue what thos are lol i did look at where to find a scanguage and i guess ill have to tap the exhuast for a temp sensor. i have 2 yrs for crap to hit the fan lol.
My dad has a 03 250 6.0 with 90,000 mile and has never had an issue..... yet, his is all stock, oil change every 2500 miles (same with me) just kinda concerned with the aftermarket stuff on it now after reading leave it stock leave it stock lol But, if it blows it blows, it is what it is, she fires right up and runs smooth.

Well it runs good thats a Great Sign

Best thing you can do is get a ScanGaugeII First thing and learn what to watch for and let the Numbers tell you what needs to be addressed. You could have an Issue coming and without the numbers you will not know untill it goes out With a SGII you can see issues coming Before they turn into a Catastropic Failure.

Get a Fuel Pressure Gauge Before you worrey about EGT Gauge if you can afford Both GREAT just Fuel press is a Higher Priority on the List IMO. Or most here do the Blue fuel press spring mod and dont worrey about it untill they tune

And the good thing is if you do have a Problem down the road there are all kinds of Bullet Proof Fixes for any issue that are advalible now

ACRONYMS FORD
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/821641-acronyms.html

This will help to understand the Code/Lingo on here lots of abbreviations

The things I mention B4 is
ECT and EOT is to monitor Oil Cooler health

And

ICP and IPR% is to monitor HPO system (High Pressure Oil) Health

you will want to keep ontop these 2 for shure

Stick with an SCT Tunner if you want to keep the tranney in it and I also Highly recomend Headstuds with a tunner but some do have custom tunes written for a NON STUDED Truck on an SCT Tunner

Congrates and enjoy the new truck My 6.0L has been a Great Truck Same year as your DADS truck

Study up and you will have a GREAT RIDE for MANY Miles to come

Hey Blade,
Not to steal the thread but you discuss ....ICP and IPR%
Can u explain it in easy terms what these mean & if i was to view 1 of those all the time on my Edge Evo CS which would u recommend to catch a HPO failure ??

P.S...Damn it now u guys have me worried about my Edge
You know u can control how "hard/soft" the Trans shifts w/the Edge Evo CS...If that helps

Shure
Basicaly your HPOP(High Press Oil Pump) is Gear Driven so it is ALWAYS pumping if the trucks runing its pumping. So there has to be a way to controll the Oil Pressure. This is done with the IPR ( Injector Press Regulator) the IPR is a Valve that open and closes to control the oil pressure. Blocks the HPO drain path

Now the ICP is Just a pressure sensor that measures the Oil Pressure to see how high/Low the oil pressure is.

So the PCM uses the ICP reading to determine what position the IPR should be in.
Heres the Kicker
at 0% IPR reading the IPR Valve is Fulley OPEN Position
and at 100% IPR reading the IPR is Fulley Closed position

I cant tell you what one to watch contiuously it depends on the Fail Senereo what one will be the Promonent one

But when you check the value of Most sensors/actuators certain conditions need to be Met to Inshure an accurite Sensor/Actuator Value is Given/Taken
In this case for ICP & IPR you must have an ECT of 190* minimum and take the Values at KOEO ( Key Off Engine On) and Low Idel and High Idel (2500rpm)

IDK if this shift control will save the tranney or NOt

All I do know from alot of reading of everyones issues with the tranney is that Bulley Dog and Edge are the Main 6.0L torq shift Trans KILLERS

and a SCT Tunners seam to work GREAT with the 6.0L trans

Hmmm.... not bad, I always like learning something new and what not. most of the time I drive with the radio off and just listen to the rig and watch the gauge's. will be gettin a scan2 shortly. Plus looking into other stuff like the egr delete, and little things, talking to the power shop, figureing stuff out. other than that I love the truck!!! such a nicer ride versus that 1996 1 ton!!!

wilpower, i'd stay away from tat k&n air filter. i'd revert back to the stock donaldson air filter. for wat u intend to use it for, the stock air filter is more than sufficient.
