Door speaker wiring question

I'm looking into upgrading the stereo in my 1980 f250. I'm replacing the dashboard 5x7, but I'd also like to put som 6"ers in the doors. My question is how do you wire the speakers back to the headunit? There aren't any holes in the side of the door, and there aren't any holes in the door jamb where there usually are for doors with electronics in them. How do you wire the door speakers? Do you have to drill holes and run conduit? Do you run them across the opening Jeep-style?

My truck had a mono stereo system, so I don't have anything to work with.

You can drill holes and run the plastic loom through just like the factory did, down low in the door jamb.

Do you happen to have any pics of where the factory holes are? I'm planning on drilling

there, spraying on a little primer, run some wraparound plastic conduit, and go from there. Is this a stupid idea?

Go to a junk yard and get the rubber boots that run from the door to the cab and measure where they are. You can use from 80-97 parts, they are the same

Yep, Head to radioshack or a junk yard and get the rubber. Go to a newer, but cheaper car. Higher odds of getting rubber with some life left in it, but the less wire to the doors, the more likely it'll be round. Go to the back doors if need be.

You want the holes to be at the same height, so drill in the door, then close it and mark the frame.

What would the world be without car/truck guys!

I'm figuring if your truck did have AC it might be broken by now? That's a good amount of speaker for that space. But, if you get distortion or noise at higher volumes look into an amp. You can get a decent amp for 4 speakers under $100 now, and the cab of a truck has tons of space for mounting.

Any of the '87+ trucks will work too for the rubber looms. The doors and jambs should have a dimple in them from the factory locating the center of the holes - at least that's what I've been seeing on them.
