Question Door speakers

Does anyone have a picture of speaker wires running from the door to the cab on a 77-79 ?

Want to put speakers in my doors *latest project* and want to know where to place the wires/cut the door & cab holes

before I start tearing down the doors & re-placing the fenders.

Thanks

I'll go thru my pics. or take new ones. I've got a truck I stripped for parts that had factory door speakers. I took the factory am/fm stereo out and all the factory wiring to put into my other trucks and took pictures of the holes with dimensions and location but I'll have to go thru all my stuff and look them up. The factory am/fm stereo is what I'm using. So whatever that put out. The speakers that will be in the doors are Alpine. They we're already in my '77 shortbox when I got it.

The truck I stripped was a '77 F350 supercab/camperspecial. Had a 460 in it and was nicely optioned and everything worked in it.

You should see a small dimple in the front channel of the door and a corresponding dimple on the A pillar (that's how ford center their bits when they did it factory). Right where it begins to angle up for the window. that is where the factory speaker wire popped through. Mine did not have factory holes, but it is a 78 and the dimples were still good to go. Used a step drill, 2 grommets, and 1/4" split loom.

Here they are in real life, up close and measured. If you get the OEM harness with the funnel gaskets.

X2 on drill the dimples.

What size speakers fit best in your doors? I know the measurements are on here somewhere, but I never seem to be able to find them......

Slight hijack but related subject matter...........
Are these speaker wire holes drill-able with the fenders and doors in place or does one or the other need to be off the truck?
No where near my truck to be able to check it out myself.
Thanks
Tbruz

Maybe the cab holes with the doors on, but pretty sure NO drill the door holes with it installed.

You can get the factory harness reproduced.

The holes will accommodate slightly larger speakers. I was able to put 6 1/4" (maybe 6 1/2"?) speakers in one of mine.

Where?

I have a very busted-up wiring harness on my 79 lariat cab/doors for the radio. Was wondering where I could get a repo.

Yes, you can drill both door and pillar holes without having to dismount anything - used to do that at a Ford dealership I worked at. You will be drilling at an angle but your main worry is inadvertently moving the drill chuck into contact someplace and nicking paint. Best to deburr the holes if possible, or use a rubber grommet.

I think the original speaker size is 5 1/2"? Depending on the shape of the metal speaker shell, some 6" speakers seem to ft OK. (The most fun when I had my 61 was popping off the lower door panels and using an air chisel to cut 6x9" holes in them...in the '70s that was some jaw-dropping bass in a truck cab.)
