Hey guys I've got a question. Other than cleaning or repair why would he need to drop the trans/transfer case? Both the input shaft and output shaft seal can easily be replaced while still in the vehicle.

2x having the flywheel surfaced. Engine is out and there's plenty of time...

Good point.
Forgot about half ton vs 3/4 ton anatomy.

It's been a while since I have had any time to post. I did order the engine and it's coming from Texas so it will be here in a week or so. I ordered it without the cam just because I'm still a little worried about passing smog. I may change the cam out later after I learn a bit more about this.

I still need to order the other misc parts, (Water pump, belts, clutch parts, etc...) would it be best to buy local at Napa or order it online? I'm leaning towards on Napa just because I can return stuff if needed easily and Napa has been pretty good to me lately.

Steve, I usually buy my parts at NAPA and get the Gold Line parts with the lifetime warranty. I think it's a lot easier to handle warranty stuff face-to-face than by long-distance. I picked up a new master cylinder for my F-150 today. Won't cost me a dime; I put the current one on in 1994.

Steve,

What vendor did you go with for your motor? When the time comes for mine I will be doing the same thing.

Steve

I would suggest you get a RV cam and install it with a straight up double roller timing chain. That will give you good power and you won't have any problems with passing smog.

I started a thread about reman'd long blocks....just curious as to where you ordered yours from....and why you chose them. I've been looking and everyone seems to believe theirs is the best.....

What would I have to replace if I swapped the cam?

I shopped around and all the shops seemed pretty good and all of them had a good warrenty so it was a bidding war. I didn't go for low bid so I went with a place called ICT out of Texas. They where in the mid range price and seemed pretty reasonable. I haven't recieved the engine yet, It should be here sometime late next week or so and I will post up some photos when it arrives. Time will tell if they did a good job.

One of my challenges with this engine project is my budget, I wasn't planning on replacing my engine yet and I was gearing up to repaint my truck so I had to quickly fund the engine project without killing my paint project. I'm not doing a cheap job but one that is cost effective as possible and I'm not making a super modified truck ether, I want to replace the engine and add a few mods (Carb, mainifold, etc...) but make it look clean and stock. (I'm a real stickler for clean)

I misunderstood what you meant. It's coming with a cam but just stock? Guess you need to check with them about a change out / verse's warranty issues and what they recommend. If it's not built yet now's the time.

Create Engine has finally arrived. Looks good so far, I will get it up on the engine stand in a few days and get this project started.

Nice squish on the rear main cap. Hopefully this will be the end of my leaks.
