Turbo grinding..need help with replacement

My 03 6.0 Excursion started making a grinding sound yesterday. I thought I was dragging something but it only happens when I accelerate I assume it is the turbo 150k. Any suggestion on a rebuilt or used. Not wanting to drop a lot of cash just put $2k in the high pressure oil pump, sensors, and FICM Rebuild.

The intake probably killed your turbo...

Here's some pics of an 04 6.0 turbo that had an intake on it...

I would look into a powermax turbo, or a rebuilt on on eBay

After Market intake

Bismic I have an aftermarket intake on my 03 F350. You indicate that they are destructive per your pictures. Do you recommend staying with the stock intake or is there an aftermarket you would suggest. Thanks

Yes, stock intake and stock filtration is recommended. Those pictures are what happens when dirt goes through the turbo, it's called dusting the turbo. Ultimately, those particles destroy the impeller on the intake side, kinda like a sandblaster.

Boys those PICS are the EXHAUST side of the turbo. a aftermarket intake did not do that. Something had to come though from the exhaust side to do that. Hell i have a AFE that drops in the same as the stock unit ,i clean it every two months . Its been there for 6 1/2 years still have stock turbo.

sign me up for the camp that says the OEM intake is best (to 500 hp), but Wulfman said it all.

That is the exhaust side and the turbo ate something, the AM intakes dust the other side of the turbo.

04,5,6,7 all use the same turbo pedastal. 03 turbos were different and I'm not sure an 04 pedastal will fit because of the rear intake runner on your truck. I believe the turbo WILL fit but you can only use the front 2 bolts. I know a LOT of tech's that don't replace the rear bolt for various reasons......
