also something to note here is the way the turbo is clamped with the black brackets around the edges. If you have this style turbo and take apart the back half of the housing make sure you mark it as it can be a pain to recolck correctly.

I have been very seriously thinkin about a good scubbin lately on mine. Immediately after shut-down i have been hearing what sounds like a failing bearing or light metal to metal rubbing as the turbo spins down. Do our turbos have a bearing inside, if so is it replaceable?

you need to address this like yesterday if you suspect its a turbo issue. if this is the case you can wind up with a run-a-way engine rather quickly wich will more then likly melt itself down.
the will casue the shaft seals to fail and let engine oil enter the intake system.
as long as the the impeller/compresser wheels have not damaged the housing you can replace the center section. you cant replace the shaft bushing (not a bearing) alone so far as I know.

diesel fuel delution of the oil may cause this problem injector o-ring suspect just a thought
Thats great news. There has been some rumblings of funny injector noises, tranny programming anomalies and F450's blowing up towing heavy loads. I am just trying to stay abreast of the news. Talk to you soon.

other option is new turbo
So the turbo is partially rebuildable? I have allot of oil in the aftercooler as we just took it off today. How do I test it? Is there a rebuild kit fo the turbo?
ford sales a center section for the tubo. the inspection for the housing is a visual thing.
you would disassemble it inspect the vains for damage and pitting. you would need to look at the impeller and compresser housing for damage. you may or may not need to replace the unison ring as well.
