Spring is almost here March BS thread!
Truth is I'm gettin to be old and have done plenty of stupid things in my life. See truck info below.Do tell please. I'm sick of hearing about my buddy's d-min I could puke. I pray everyday he blows a head gasket.
I am a washed up has been drag racer. I bracket raced a 79 Mustang with a 429/C6 combo for about 10 years. Ran go karts with the kids for a few then started my son in junior dragsters in '96, the only year we raced the Mustang and the junior together. It was too much so we sold the Mustang and stuck with the junior for about 10 years. We've had a few different trucks over the years with my favorite being a '92 RC 350 with a 460. The last truck we had is the '97 CC 7.3 250 pictured below. The P-Stroke more than paid for itself pulling a 24' enclosed car trailer at ~7,500#. We put 125k on it the first 6-7 years running tracks from MI to CO. In '03 we bought a new motor home with a Ford chassis and the V10. Put about 15k on it that year and found out that 24K#, barn door aerodynamics and a V10 will go 90+, although I wouldn't recommend it. I also know what 3.8mpg feels like. In '04 for various reasons, we quit.
I now have a little 14' enclosed Haulmark for my MC and golf cart that maybe weighs 5.5k. Doesn't need much of a truck to pull it. I have a driveway 150' long that I plow. And I just built another garage last Dec with another 250' of driveway.
I wasn't planning on a new truck at this time since I just put up a new garage a few months ago and I still owe for 2 more years on my wife's Mustang. I'm not comfortable with having 2 car payments either, but it doesn't really bother me when I start up the new truck. I was hoping for another few years out of the '97. I still like it and I think it's one of the best looking Ford trucks ever sold. But it was extremely rusty underneath. I always kept it looking as good as I could, touched up the paint and little rust spots as needed (OIL PAN), but it was obvious this one had lived its life and needed to move on. I repaired a rusted brake line, no big deal, but they all needed replacing, as well as shocks, springs, and the oil pan. It was a small miracle the pan wasn't already leaking. A week later, after talking myself into dealing with small problems and keeping my rusty rig because of sticker shock over the new ones, the water pump spits out a bearing seizing the shaft and allowing the fan and clutch the remove itself. At least the radiator was there to stop it. I took that as a sign and started shopping.
Tried to save a buck and looked at 150s a little bit, but you certainly can't plow with that and I'd have to get a bobcat or something else for the driveway. I skipped looking at 250s just because of the cost and licensing differences and I don't use this for business so I don't care about GVW. I looked at regular cab trucks for a bit to save some money, but I didn't want to give up the CC space and convenience.
I drove the new P-Stroke and it was absolutely awesome! And expensive. This new truck will see 8-10k miles/year at best, so I don't think a 6.7 would ever pay for itself like my 7.3 did. The 6.2 is up about 100hp over my 7.3 but down on torque a tiny bit. I don't think I'll see much performance difference between the two.
I know this has gotten long, so I'll say one more thing and get to the pics.
My Dad retired from Ford in St Paul back in the 90s after 35 years of service and he can still get discounts in a limited number. He was gracious enough to give one to me. Thanks Pops, you're the best! The discount is good enough that it is worth it for me to buy new as long as I keep it a while.

I'm Jim. Most places on the net I sign up as Jimmy B now. Makes more sense since I haven't raced in years.
