Actually I am not sure. That is farther then we go for. In Stowe Vermont we go to the Stowe bike path. Its a little over 7 miles one way. Best to start in th village because the other end is higher elevation. Usually come back about 2 gears higher
Not sold on the Escort. I know they're good cars, but we're kinda thinking a little bigger so we can get all three kids in. I'm getting tired of maintaining three POS vehicles and would like to get back to two vehicles. The Bonneville should be able to get close to 30 for highway miles.
you might be suprised. My wife fits in the back of our jetta with 2 car seats.
i completely get the bigger car thing. I'm thinking I'd like a 5 series to haul the kiddos around in... or a crew cab. It's a hard choice.

mtn bike vs road bike.
I'm usually riding at about 18-22 mph.
If you like biking, it might be worth it to rent a road bike (or buy an older craigslist cheapie) and do that ride.
It's set up with breaks every 10-15 miles. The one in minnesota has over 3200 riders annually. It's a biking and a party every night. it's totally a blast.
Yes, the SSEI has a supercharger. I forgot about the maintenance on those things. I've never had one. OH Troy ... I know your GP has/had a supercharger. Experience?
The Saturn is a manual now, so that's no issue. The issue is Cruise Control. My wife does a LOT of highway driving, so CC is a must. The Saturn doesn't have it and it's one of her big complaints about the car.

Yeah Michael I would stick with the little bit bigger cars for the sake of the family. You may be able to fit them in an Escort but that doesn't mean much. I have had two 3800 supercharged cars. A 00' Bonneville and the '98 Grand Prix I have for sale. Never a single issue with either of them and get close to 30 mpg with no problem. I have never owned a higher mileage one than my Gran Prix at 153K but this one is still running strong but if something goes wrong they are gonna be a bit more money to fix. Good luck on your choice but I would stay away from the Dodge's!
I myself would not suggest one of these unless you have someone that you know will work on these cars. They may not breakdown much but when they do they are expensive to fix and out in the rural area no one will work on them to much. I haul a ton of foreign cars out of town to get fixed. Good for me but bad for the owner!

hahaha... I guess I should go set up a shop in suppertown.
The bright side of Passats- They aren't all that modifyable (looks wise), so they aren't in demand with enthusiests. Yet, Volkswagon only made a few motors, so parts are readily available.
The VR6 and the 2.0's are 2 of VW's most reliable motors. The big thing with the 2.0s, you just have to do the timing belt every 80k. (it's super easy to do. Just retimed my buddies 2.0 last weekend). The VR6 is a timing chain motor.
Also, with the VWs, parts aren't that much more expensive (usually), unless you break something rare.
note: I happen to consider myself a VW enthusiest. Ford or German is my motto
This is just to boost my post count in this thread to 2. I am still in last place. I have nothing more to add or I would try to get out of the basement. Seriously.
