I had a real hard time convincing myself to buy another new Ford after having 3 brand new with paint issue. So this time I leased. It's cheaper than buying, and I can simply walk away from the vehicle if it decides to rust out on me
Btw, if your vehicle does start rusting, Ford will likely blame you for not washing it
I too have thin/light paint on my hood hinges, firewall and on the bottom of the doors. I also have bubbles in the drainage channels on the roof. I picked mine up last Sat... Feb 25.

The hood hinges and firewall would not bother me. That seems more typical of past trucks I've had. But the door bottoms would cause a trip to the dealer! Although I had a Ranger years ago with similar poor paint on the door bottoms and I never worried about it. Had it 10 years and it was fine other than the looks of it. I think most of the protection comes from the metal coating and primer anyway. The top coat of paint is primarily for looks.
As an automotive refinisher for 25 years, I see that most car companies have been doing this for many years. Anywhere that is hidden or not exposed directly to weather often doesn't get full paint coverage, and the Japanese is a big offender of this. However, this doesn't mean that this is an issue, because everything is dipped in electrically charged primer and and the metal in the lower areas of the vehicle has some galvanization to it, and not to mention mastic bonding materials to doors and between many of the panels. If anyone has noticed, the 2004 on up F-150's don't have the rust issues the earlier models has because of these practices used now. The thin coverage in the hidden areas is not just a Ford thing.
Bubble's in the drainage channels on the roof would bother me. Wasn't there another member on this forum that had that issue and decided to force the issue and replace his truck?
I will receive my F 150 FX4 2012 this week I'm ready for vibration tests ;after reading your comments I think I'll do a thorough inspection of the painting.
