I been noticing weird marks and chips showing up on my 85 F-250. Garage kept since the day it came home, I notice, especially on the hood, Dark and lighter "spots" and discolorations. The paint on the very front of the hood is chipping away. Someone told me there was a recall for the paint on these a few years ago but I'm not sure. Any info on what and why this is happeneing and what I can do to slow it down untill I get the cash to get the bad boy painted, will be very helpfull. Thanks a lot
They did have a paint recall. I don't know if your year was included and if the recall still applies. It was something to do with the primer. I heard rumors that Dupont was footing alot of the paint bills. What made it so expensive is the paint shop had to grind everything off to bare metal. I don't know if it was a compatibility problem between the primer and the paint, but the paint would not stay on the truck. I would be surprised if they would re-paint a truck that old though.
Yeah I doubt they'd repaint it too, I wasn't planning on trying to get it done for nothing, I was just curious about it. Its true, it seems like certain spots are about ready to start peeling off, its annoying cause the truck was taken care of so well too. Eh what can I do, you can't win em all. thanks
I have a 1986 F-250 and they did have a recall on the paint for my truck. This was about seven or eight years ago. The paint is all peeling off again, and it is time for another one. There was a specific time frame that you had to make a claim with Ford and has been over since back when I got mine painted (I barely got in under the wire). The Ford painter told me the paint when it was originally sprayed was done with low pressure due to EPA requirements, something about it keeping finer particles out of the air ( I'm not a painter or a chemist so I just nodded like I understood what he was saying, as if he really knew) and that the paint didn't take as well as it should. Well I can tell you it didn't take much better the second time. Anyways good luck on your paint job. If you live in Southern Cal I would like to know how it turned out, who did it and what it cost.
