Do any of you have problems with peeling or flaking paint on your Bronco's or other Ford products? If so, have you addressed this issue with Ford Co and have you gotten any positive results?
My paint is just falling off my front fenders and hood like dead skin from a sun burn leaving only the gray primer.
I sold Fords for a while a couple of years ago. Heard that there was a problem with the paint in the late 80s fords (cars and trucks) particulay dark bleus and grays. It is not a solution but at least an explaination. No warentee for more than 12 year old paint!
Thanks for the response. I did a little more research on this issue and it seems Ford was repainting vehicles in the 90's if they had 100,000 miles or less. You've got to have a cut-off somewhere I suppose.
Anyone out there used a Camo paint pattern on their Bronco's? I'd like to see them if you could post them. I'll probably camouflage mine. Flat paint will help hide the small dents and dings and will be the envy of all of my other redneck buddies back home during hunting season.
I know Ford issued a TSB for 80's trucks for orange peel in the factory paint jobs.I'm not the original owner of my 1990 Bronco, but I think it fell under the same TSB,and Ford repainted it in the mid-90's.I think the years affected were 1980 through 1991 model years, but I forget the TSB issue #.
I think the reason why the paint chips is because Ford was using new kinds of paint that did not have lead and they didn't quite get it right on those years trucks.
I had an 87 Taurus that the clear-coat was coming off in sheets. It was only 2 years old and had less than 30K miles on it when I took it back to the dealership. They said "sorry...12 month waranty on paint" (I rolled the dice and didn't get the extended warranty). I argued with them for almost a year and kept getting the party line about 12 months. I even had correspondence going with Ford's South Eastern sales area Vice-President. I was majorly dissapointed with Ford. As it turns out, I was in an accident and totalled the Taurus before I ever got it resolved. One thing I never understood was my dad, whose 88 Crown Victoria was peeling just like my Taurus, got his repainted, courtesy of Ford when the dealership noticed the paint while servicing his AC. He never even had to ask. Now what was up with that?!?! I was so dissapointed with Ford my next two vehicles were D*dges. I have since gotten over it and have come back to the fold, but it'll take me a lot longer to get over that little paint feascoe.

You can pull up some TSB's on it. Ford calls it microchecking, and it affects primarily the horizontal surfaces. I think they said there was a problem with the paint's long term adhesion to the primer. My truck is doing this on the top of the front fenders, and when it's esposing the primer, not the metal.
Like the other guys said, all the warranties ran out sometime in the mid 90's.
Ford pretty much ate crow on this one, and i doubt you'd get any warranty work done, but then again a lot of this is not what ya know, but who ya know.
Good luck.
