is the number im looking for to figure out the year of a truck i have located on the side or top of the frame by the alternater.also i have 2 grill frames that came with it,both have round lights.one has amber lenses for the signal lights the other has clear.was lense color differant between years.thanks in advance.
The VIN is located in two separate locations on the frame. The first, visible VIN, is located on the top, right (passenger) side frame rail. It can be anywhere between the firewall and radiator support but is usually about inline with the alternator.
The second, hidden, VIN is also on the top right frame rail about 10"-12" behind the front cab mount.
Sometimes the VIN's are hard to find/read because of rust, grease, stamped lightly, etc.
so be prepared to search. Breakout the wire wheel and scrub brush.
On rare occasions, the numbers weren't stamped at all.
The first picture is the hidden VIN, the second, the one in the engine compartment.
The clear lenses are for a 73-75, the amber are 76-77.
its a start, gettin a grinder in theres gonna be a pain, tryed a wire brush, not working.i just gotta find out what year truck this is.i got it 5 yrs ago for 500 with no title, had a plow, did the job.now im thinkin cause its an auto 4x4 with pw str and power brakes its worth doin somthin with.biggest prob is that the cab and complete front clip is not a 360 truck.
