Witch is best...?

Inline block heaters, witch is better?

The ones that go at the lowest point in the heater lines, or the one that goes in the lower Rad hose?

For my van, since I can't use the real block heater, as it's the older block that likes to crack.

Assuming it's a circulating inline heater, I'd think installing in the heater hose would be better, as the thermostat being closed would impede circulation from the radiator hose...

Thats a good point.

I'd also think that in case of failure, you'd want it in the heater hose as that would be easier to swap out. Also easily patchable in the field, where as a radiator hose would require draining most of the coolant, and you'd have to have a spare uncut hose to put in its place.

I've been using the one that goes in the heater core lines for 2 winters, and it works great. I got the 1500watt model and stick it on a timer. It doesn't take long to heat it up with that thing!

Good point.

Guess I'll have to find a tank heater as I think it's called like I have on my 7.3

The place I went, they only had that lower rad hose heater, and only 600W, I want at least 1500W's.

Ya they make oil pan, battery, and coolant heaters mostly for extreme conditions up north and heavy equiptment in antartica. But by time you spend all that electricity you might as well just let it idle 24\7. I know in north dakota if you shut down for more than an hour you most likely won't get it started, at least without some help.

These 'ol girls have got me spoiled. I know I can count on my IDI to start down to 0 without being plugged in (she don't like it though, but she'll fire by the 2nd or 3rd cycle usually). I try to plug it in when it's that cold and I know I'll be using it though. At work I'll just start it up for a bit on my lunch break and it'll retain enough heat throughout the day that I don't have to worry about it getting me home at the end of the day. Wish my DT466 started that easy. And the DT doesn't have a heater either.

Well this van simply doesn't crank fast enough to start like it should. It needs batteries for starters, battery cables soon, and probably a starter as it is the original, and it was a company van from day 1, until I bought it, so you can just imagine all the starts it's done.

Keeping it on the block heater will save me some time from buying all these things right away.
