I've been trying to make progress before it gets cold. I've sprayed some hi build primer, block sanded and shot another coat of same primer. I decided I wanted to spray the cab with the doors installed so the shade matches but I need to spray the interior before installing the doors so I could get the door jams. So this weekend I finally shot some color. I decided on satin black from The Coating Store. I shot the interior including dash, door jams, and inside side of doors. It was nice to spray something other than gray primer.
I solved my monster exhaust fan overpower issue by putting a restrictor plate in front of it made out of plywood. Also added a paint filter in front of the wood. Works like a champ.
I solicited the help of my son-in-law and his dad to help hang the doors so I'll be ready to paint the cab in a couple of days. Finally some progress.
Yep. We have rain in the forecast all week but next weekend looks clear which means I will be trying to paint the remaining items. Then it's just a matter of bolting on pieces. I can't wait to see what kind of stance the truck has.
I went to the Autorama yesterday but didn't see many old Ford trucks. Mostly old Chevys. We saw Dan Pastorini walking around. He looks pretty good for all that he's been thru.
I've been priming and sanding and wiping and painting. This is more work and time consuming than I thought it would be but it's finally starting to look like a truck. I have a few more pieces to shoot then I'll bolt everything together.
What are you guys running for radiators? Looking at my catalogs all I see are $500 aluminum radiators and $200 fans with shrouds. Plus I might have to upgrade my radiator valance for the cross flow radiator, another $250. That's alotta collata. I've got a 5.0 and an AOD. Does anyone have any better (cheaper) ideas?
I designed an fabricated my own core support but it wasn't cheap. My buddy just bought an aluminum radiator at the Long Beach swap meet for less than $300 and it is the exact fit as the OEM radiator.
Clever ideas. Looks like I'll have to get creative or take out a loan 😏 I have a few bucks that I was hoping to use to buy some wheels, but then again I want to start it up. Maybe I can deliver pizza on the side.
