ya you probably wont find it on the VIN. I think ford sent those to become 4x4 after they built them. in other words I think another company made them 4x4. Mine was built by a company called pathfinder. The dana 44 quite a bit smaller than the 60. the dif covers are pretty different also. If you google dana 60 and dana 44 you will see the difference. also let me know if your van has leaf springs up front or coil springs. Thanks for the compliment. Thats the only pic I have at the moment.
FoMoCo never converted any year Econoline to 4WD .. Quadravan or Pathfinder purchased the vans from dealers, then converted them.
Pathfinder included a manual with all the part numbers used in the conversion, but if it's lost, lotsa luck finding what the parts came from.
I went thru this rigamarole trying to figure out what fit what, by matching up the parts. So I can tell you this, the draglink is from a Chevy.
Thnx spaz , I’ve had the van for about 5 years & only put a few miles on it , I have a farm here in sw co , so I’ve put it in 4 wheel drive once to climb a hill with a fairly tight turn but wasn’t aware of binding , so is there an alternate ( used ) newer engine I can bolt in ? Under 5k $ . I don’t mind the labor + I have a mechanic that could help
Ok , I did some research & doesn't look good on improving mpg in a 4x4 van , so could I make improvements to get 12+ with the 460 ? I guess I'd settle for 10 mpg , right now the engine seems sluggish & the trans won't shift to passing gear , I am going to pull & rebuild it with a guy up the street who has. An excellent rep ,
