Hi everyone - I bought this a couple of months ago after many years of trying to get a friend to sell it to me. It is a 460/C6 with a/c, chateau option, cruise control, and power locks. It runs good but the transmission needs to be rebuilt. I might have to sell it so I wanted to see if anyone can give me a rough idea of what it is worth with\without a rebuilt transmission. It is a 100% complete california car with no rust.
4x4 vans are wanted by many but rarely found, so in my opinion its well worth it to rebuild or replace the transmission, possibly with a good used one if money is a problem. i'd say that when its running its easily worth a few grand, but others probably have a more precise estimate than i do
Awesome thanks joshofalltrades with that in mind I'll definitely plan on either putting a used trans in it or having the original one rebuilt. I felt like I bit off more than I can chew on this one but at least now I know it is worthwhile doing work to it.
hey I recently bought one off of craigslist for 2 grand but the guy was hurting for cash. what front end is on that? if its a dana 60 its worth more. I had to do some tune up stuff but i have seen them go for 4k or more in good running order. an tranny wont be that bad price wise to rebuild. not a bad looking van man. I would hang on to it. where are you based out of?

Thanks man yours looks cool too. The only axle code I have on the vin tag is 36, which apparently means a Dana 70 in the rear. I live in socal but am keeping the van at my dads house near the sf bay area. Thats part of the reason why I'm having trouble holding on to it and its been sitting since 1999 so I hate seeing it sit more. Do you know how I can tell if the front is a Dana 60? I should be going up there to work on it soon. Thanks again for your input.
ya you probably wont find it on the VIN. I think ford sent those to become 4x4 after they built them. in other words I think another company made them 4x4. Mine was built by a company called pathfinder. The dana 44 quite a bit smaller than the 60. the dif covers are pretty different also. If you google dana 60 and dana 44 you will see the difference. also let me know if your van has leaf springs up front or coil springs. Thanks for the compliment. Thats the only pic I have at the moment.
It has coil springs up front and it is a pathfinder conversion. I have a picture of the front hub but I don't know if that helps. I'll take more pictures of it next time I see it but it looks like I'll be able to figure it out.
to be honest its worth what ever the market around you will support.it could be 250.00 bucks or as high as 5,000.00 bucks.I will say if you decide on 250.00 i will take it right now..lol.,but ya depends on the market your in.
If I were trying to sell this I'd first do an internet search as best you can for similar 4WD vehicles that have recently sold in my area. Then I'd head to FleaBay and do the same---its a national marketplace and you'd be surprised how far some will travel to find the perfect-for-them van/truck.
If it drives well enough as-is for a quick test and check of the 4WD operation I wouldn't do anything with the transmission. Naturally disclose those problems with a potential buyer and let them decide if its something they want to deal with. Some will try to use that as a bargaining point but the uniqueness of your van makes it highly desirable enough its not that big an issue to greatly reduce the asking price. I'd rather know an issue up front, make my own repairs or replacement and not be concerned with an unknown used transmission.
If the whole van looks as good as this one photo, if its rust free and the remaining running gear works you've got something someone will pretty much fall all over themselves to grab up. That 460 motor would scare me MPG wise but it won't bother someone needing a 4WD van!
Hope you can keep it if you like it---if not best of luck when you list it!
FYI only a 4x4 transmission will swap in due to it having a shorter output shaft than a 2wd and NO you can't just swap out the shaft without total dis-assembly of the transmission, which you may as well rebuild it at that point. Selling a vehicle with a bad trans is a crap shoot, the buyer has to trust you that nothing else is wrong as they can't drive it and test it all out, there is a lot of moving parts in a 4x4 leaving repairs open to be expensive, if the transfer case, or other components are bad. Don't know what you paid for it, but as is, get ready to eat it, I say get it rebuilt.
I know this is an old thread but I couldn't help but notice WalmartsWarrior's avatar. Looks exactly like my 78 E-350 Quadravan. I haven't seen another like it. Can't mistake that yellow.
