RUST

Drive shafts appear to have been under water for years, rust from U-joint to U-joint. Has anyone experienced this condition with their trucks. The rust is so bad that I have visions of the shafts flying apart one day while at 75 mph. Anyway, is the condition of the shafts (flaking rust) cause for worry? Could sanding and rust preventative painting at this point be useful? Mike

Rust on the drive shaft/chassis is normal. Especially if you live in the rust belt somewhere. Can you post a picture of it?

Mine is rusted...pretty much only surface rust; no flakes of rust coming off. But if/when it lets go...got my eye on an aluminum replacement.

Dito on the rust belt Benny. They put salt down here like candy in a parade! I plan on starting to undercoat mine too. I just purchased a Colorado truck. Pretty clean and minimal rust. I hope to get a jump on it before it starts. The only way to stop it is to get to clean bare metal and prime and paint.
