Anyone ever swap out the timing chains for a set of timing gears in there bronco? I love the sound of gears thinking when i tear into it i may make the switch
The only thing I know of besides the cost (cheapest Ive ran across from Summit is $175.00, and they go up to $325.00) is that people complain of the noise that they create. They WHINE, cause they are straight cut gears verses helical cut. However, Im not sure you would notice it a speed over wind and tire noise. You probably would at idle and low speed and obviously when the hood is up
I installed a pete jackson gear drive in a z-28 i built years ago between the gear whine and the blower whine you couldnt hear the radio but then i really didnt care about the radio
That would make for a more reliable engine right? closer to the I6?.
Im not sure a gear drive on a 302 will make it more reliable than the Ford 4.9L! In my opinion, the I6 is a bullet proof motor, providing you keep oil in it. I would jump at the chance to yank my 302 and slush box out for a 4.9L and 5spd! I had the I6 in an 89' F150 I had years ago and still regret getting rid of it
