after running my truck for several weeks, i was looking under the hood yesterday and noticed the exhaust side of the turbo housing was "blueing", I know this can only come from extreme heat, is this normal? when i towed my 11k TT a couple weeks back it did it with ease, temps got up to around 12 on hard accels but dropped to about 10 cruising, even the tabs that sit on the pedestal are beginning to discolor. just never noticed it on the stock unit. i did upgrade the oil drain tube and oil feed line when i did install it. i'll try to get some pics,
The only other thing would be if it is properly getting oil. Not sure how you would verify that (other than bad noises if you weren't getting proper oil flow).
Questions like yours get me to thinking that one day I will put a pressure sending unit on my LPOP system.
I am sure that someone that has one will jump in and tell you what they have seen.
I am borderline obsessive compulsive combined with hypochondriac so when i seen it, my mind starts racing thinking maybe the turbo is not getting any oil, maybe the supply is blocked or the drain is somehow blocked. it sucks being me. just when i see the metal turning color it just makes me think this thing is getting red hot.

I did notice when i pulled it out of the box, this new turbo had a yellow rubber cover on it as well as the obvious covers on the inlet and outlets, i never did flip it over to see if there was a drain cover from the factory. only thought about it after I installed it, the top of it has a ball bearing check valve thingy that when i pre- lubed it it didn't flow through the inlet very fast. hmmm.
