Exclamation 0 oil preasure!!!!

A couple of days ago I lost oil preasure in my truck with a full 5 liters of texas tea still in it, I automatically assumed the oil pump inlet tube was clogged or at worst my oil pump went out. After spending 11 hours of gettin my engine up to change it all out and puttin it all back and changing the oil filter, I went to start it and it still had 0 oil preasure. I am still pretty new to the full mechanics of oil flowing through the engine, so does anyone have any idea what else it might possibly be?

bad sending unit, not uncommon. hook a mechanical gauge up to your truck

If you or a freind has a a gauge to thread into the block where the sending unit is try that. If it reads 0, it may be the oil pump itself, If it shows pressure, it may be the sending unit or the gauge in the dash

The oil pump is fine I just replaced it along with the oil inlet tube. and I dont think its my guage or sending unit because my truck goes from freezing to overheating in a matter of seconds so I would naturally assume that there is no oil flowin through her veins for it to raise the temp. that much in a matter of no time at all.

does it KNOCK at all? 0 oil psi means she's had it, if you test with another gauge to verify and installed a new pump and still got 0 oilpsi id say its engine rebiuld and swap time. dig out the pocket book this one gona hurt

Yeah. Something is really wrong there. Is there anyway possable that you have the temp sending unit wire plugged into the oil sending unit?????Just a thought.

Now you replaced the oil filter and ran the engine....Is there oil in your oil filter? That is the first place oil goes to is the oil filter.Did the valve train rattle alot on start up?DO NOT RUN ENGINE TO LONG. It only takes a couple min to sieze an engine and a few seconds to do damage.Did you put the little gasket on the oil pump pick up tube? There is a lot of things that can go wrong with this. I guess start with the basics.Check the oil filter and that will tell you if your pump is working. Then go from there.

This was going to be my question as well. The last motor I rebuilt I got careless and neglected to put this gasket on. It would get oil flowing after five or 10 seconds but the motor only lasted a couple thousand miles.

I guess you verified that the oil pump drive shaft is intact and properly installed? You may want to remove the distributor to verify that it's not broken off or stripped right where it seats in the distributor shaft. If this all checks out I'm guesing it's working fine and you have a dead oil pressure sensor.

Did you prime the oil pump?

the easiest thing i would say is to check to see if the sending unit is bad. then check the distributor shaft that goes to the oil pump

use mech. gauge to see if you have pressure.

Thank you for taking time to give me some ideas. First, when I changed everything out I made sure to put in all the gaskets, I primed my pump and made SURE that the intermediate drive shaft between the pump and the distributer was properly in place. I recently pulled off my oil filter, when I did it I lost about a 1/4 of a quart out of the filter mount. so once I had the filter off I cranked it over and about a quart spewed all over my engine compartment. so from there I can conclude that the pump is working properly. Secondly if it was just a sensor then why is my temp through the roof in about ten seconds?

Dude, you have something wrong electrically, like "86Capri" said

I'd still like you to check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge..

but other than that, you got one guage feeding the other it's signal

Pull a valve cover off and look to see if the rockers are all gunked up.
Oil ports in the heads could be clogged.
