Hello all. First let me say "thank you" for the wealth of knowledge I have been fortunate enough to obtain on this forum. You folks really know your stuff. Question: What location seems to work best for placement of an SGII in the Excursion? Thanks!
I put mine in the small cubby at the bottom of the dash. I made a small surround and drilled a small hole in the rear of the cubby so you can't see the wire. It looks like factory.
If I weren't so lazy, I'd probably do the same !
but I just velcroed mine to the top of the steering column - after a few practices about how far to move the lever to put it in drive, I sorta know where it is
I just stuck it on the dash on the far left side. Ran the cable under some trim pieces and it doesn't look anything like factory.
Ditto. Had mine on top left. Used the sticky velcro, so that I could remove it if I had to leave it parked somewhere questionable as to not cause undo temptation. They do have a mount for above the rear view mirror.
This is where I placed mine. I cut away that square vent thing on the dash there so the wire connector can come through. After I did it, I realized that the steering wheel does obstruct my direct view, so I need to lean forward to see it. Not a big deal, but oh well...
mine is also velcro'd on the steering column, I'm tall enough that I can still see the top of the gear indicator, and its easy to hide the cable under the fuse panel lid.
I had one in my Expedition...I had in in via the triple gauge pod on the A pillar. On the top was the trans temp, the middle was the rear air bag pressure, the bottom was the ScanGauge.
I got a piece of aluminum (I used diamond plate) and cut a 2 1/16" back spacer to fill the hole in the gauge pod. Found a metal 1" tie strap from Home Depot, bent it to make a "U" between the round plate and the back of the Scan Gauge.
Drilled a hole through the aluminum disc big enough for the Cat5 cable to fit through, used a set of small bolts/nuts to attach the U plate to the disc, then double-sided taped the back of the Scan Gauge to the U bracket. Used a small L bracket to keep the disc from falling back into the pillar mount (mount it at the 6 o'clock position).
Didn't look factory, but looked clean and put it within easy reach of my hand to change gauges and easy to see while driving day or night.
Wish I took pics...was a sweet setup. Sold it with the truck too...
Almost forgot...they make a mount that attaches to the rear view mirror arm and lets it ride above the mirror. Wish I had known about that mount before the A pillar mount...would have looked factory in that spot (IMO).
I don't see why we couldn't use one of these: Craven Speed Phone Mount Here is a video of a mount on a mini, but should be able to order just the mount with their arm from the pilar.
Sweet!.... Here is a bluetooth OBDII transmitter to connect with your smartphone. I have a couple of smartphones left over from another account. You can pick up one off CL or eBay and put it in place just for the display.
