Last night I went to move the X into the garage, started it up but decided to not move it into the garage, song came on Satellite radio I decided to listen to it then go in of course another came on so I listened to it also. I looked down at the guages on the dash and noticed that the water temp was slowly rising(X is running) weird thing was that the transmission temp was rising a bit faster, I'm not moving. Seems strange to me, this normal, I only have idiot guages and while driving the trans temp is where it should be
Sorry forgot 2003 X, 6.8, 4x4, Limited

Reason: forgot info
If your trans fluid runs through the radiator it will pick up heat from the engine, even though there's no load on either one. Is it possible you looked just as the trans temp gauge jumped from cold to warm?
My trans temp gauge always goes up before my motor temp gauge. Lots of times my trans temp gauge will be above the lower fat white mark before I get to the end of the block.
The factory trans temp gauge will move faster than the engine temp gauge at the cold range. Once it gets up to about 80 degrees or so the trans temp gauge stops in the middle until it hits 2 hundred something degrees and then it starts to move up again. This was the reason I go a Scangauge II so I can see a numeric value of the temperature for the transmission.
What you're seeing on your dash is normal. So is rocking out to tunes on the radio while idling in the driveway...air drumming. LOL.

So the transmission temp guage rising while I am sitting there is normal? never noticed that before but probably never looked. "idling in the driveway...air drumming. LOL" guess thats why the neighbors look at me strange.
sounds totally normal, i remote start my truck every day for atleast 15-30mins and both temps are normally close to operating temp by then...depending on outside temp ofcourse.

No, the radiator NEVER warms the trans fluid. I've tested this from -40°F to +115°F with numerous thermocouples to determine exactly what's happening. The cold side of the radiator is ALWAYS cooler than the ATF. The trans radiator cooler is located in the cold side of the radiator.

The trans gauge is calibrated to be in the middle of the normal range when the trans is heated all the way up to 50°F. It goes to yellow at 230°F, and red at 260°F.
