how you boys afford to run 460's at these fuel prices still, i just don't understand.you can't possibly be using them all the time anymore?
don't get me wrong,im sure they're great, fun and powerful engines, that make an old school idi diesel like mine for example, look like a total dog (i had a built up 400 years ago that did that with ease,on the cheap! so i know that doesn't take much.) but holy crap,72-75 grand in fuel, for a 10 yr ownership duration.ouch guys.
I sure am, drive it every single day. How do we do it? Simple. Most guys buy a new truck every couple/few years and since truck loans run up to 5 or 6yrs now that means they're always paying truck payments. So figure a conservative truck payment of $400 a month for that same 10 years comes to $48,000 and they still have to pay for fuel on top of that, plus higher insurance rates, licensing, tax... ... ...
For me it's cheaper and my last truck (2001 Dodge Cummins) got 10mpg in town at diesel prices, now I get 11 around town at gas prices, it's better. Remember, you only go around once
For me there is not any significant difference. I avg around 11 mpg with the 460, 14 with the psd. Gas is 3.01 and diesel is 3.98, comes out pretty close.
Exactly. DIESEL IS A LOOSER.
Wasnt a bad idea, 15 years ago when diesel was $1 a gallon cheaper and the engine was 3-4k option. But now a days, unless you are hooked to a trailer or hauling something 90% of the time it is NOT cost effective to own one
The diesel truck cost MORE to buy(new 6-7k more, used 2-3k more)
The diesel truck costs MORE to maintain(gas oil changes are $20, diesel are $75)+ plugs, wires, cap, rotor $100, Injection pump& injectors(iDI) @ 150k is about $950
