1996 F250 SC 4x4 460 mpg - first measurement and other ramblings
I picked up a 96 F250 4x4 supercab with a 460/auto a few weeks ago.
It is all stock other than a cab height fiberglass shell.
It's also got the 4.10 gears
It's got 28,000 miles on it, and according to two Ford dealer service dept's - it is running in good order.
So I just did my first couple of mpg tests.
Mainly flat land driving, with a 50/50 mix of city and highway.
I averaged 12.5 mpg.
I am not sure if I should be happy or sad I did try to drive it like a grandpa and really ease into starts, etc.
Something about this 460 has me tickled. Not sure what, but it is just a joy to crank it, put it gear, and ease on down the road.
I've read many threads on this forum about cost vs actual savings of mods to improve mpg. Let's start one more Is anyone actually averaging 15 or above? If so, what's your setup and mods including cost of mods?

if it wasn't a fill up error and you get above 10 again, then you can be happy.good luck!
don't get your hopes up with the 460.only the f150's (much lighter trucks) and srw diesels (higher maintenance and fuel) bring in those real world averages.
