I thought I read there was a tach available for commercial heavy-duty trucks (which came with the earlier-generation dash anyway), but nothing for F350 and under.
The rumor I heard was it was a hood tach. But as far as I know of didn't Ford not offer a hood tach on anything except for like the torino? Or not even at all?
Hood tachs are aftermarket, dealer installed items. Only vehicle factory equipped is likely the Pontiac GTO. No Ford Torino, Mustang or otherwise came with a factory hood tach.
As for the large trucks I don't know. Some of those trucks had factory hood scoops though!
Beginning in 1961, there were all sorts of accessory tachs available. Most were either marked SUN, or had crossed flags, or the Cobra emblem. Some mounted atop the dash, some on the steering column.
Initially listed in Ford High Performance Catalogs that feature the Cobra emblem on the cover. Then in the Motorsport Catalogs that were introduced in 1969.
I have no Motorsport Catalogs, but do have the original Hi-Po Cobra versions that cover 1961/67 and 1968.

And, the 1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog lists this little charmer: 1965/71 all FoMoCo vehicles =
btw: I don't recall if GTO's (Gran Turismo Omologato aka Garbage Truck Option) came with a hood mounted tach...or not, but I do recall seeing some Firebirds with this feature.
1964 Pontiac GTO considered by many as the first muscle car and was the brainchild of Pontiac executive John Z. DeLorean.
