Depending on year they had different ones.

The most common is the 0 to 6000 RPM tach. The tach has two grounding posts. One for ground, and the other is only grounded if you have a V8.

There is also a tach that reads 0 - 3500 RPMs for the diesel trucks. I have seen these used in the 300s as well.

okay you run the wire that used to go to the coil where it said test tach i believe over to the msd where it has the tach wire end. then in the harness there is a black wire with green dots that you have to ground its over by the original ignition box. you cut that out and ground it to the vehicle. also at first i just tried grounding it but had the old ignition box plugged in and ti gave a false tach reading so its best to just totally remove the old ignition box if you havnt. hope i explained that right but it is working properly now

If you read the tips and tricks in the sticky on top, installing a factory tach in a vehicle without one is covered there.

Basicly if you have oil and ammeter gauges, installing the factory tach is plug and play.

you need to get yourself a cluster with a tach, and go from there.

The cluster of a 1980 is different than the cluster on a 1981-1986 so if you have a 1980, you need to get a 1980 cluster. If you have a 1981 to 1986, you can use one out of a 1981-1986.

The 1980 is not compatible with any other year, because the printed circut in back of the cluster is different than on 1981-1986s
