Cold run

When i run my 6.0 03 it spits and spudders and what not... is this normal or is there something i should be checking out?

Even when i plug it in and the temp says it is warmish, it still spits and spudders til i drive it for a while....

Before anything else you need to check your FICM voltages and if you don't already have it, switch to a lighter oil such as a 5W-40.

/agreed.

Check your FICM voltages and go from there. There's a how-to on our FAQ page at FICMrepair.com. It'll take just a few minutes and you'll at least be able to rule that either in or out. The 5W40 oil switch over in the cooler months is not to be under-stated. On my 05, it was a night and day difference.

Here is a process that you should follow which will be easy, and inexpensive:
1. Go to your local auto shop and see if they will do a test for codes, usually their free.
2. If your truck is not throwing codes, then check your FICM. Very easy, someone already previously posted the step-by-step process.
3. If your reading good voltage on your FICM then I would start to treat this as what others call "Injection Stiction". Go to your local Ford dealership and ask them if they have already done the most up to date programming on the PCM. If not they can do this for an hour of shop time ($80-$120) depending on the shop.

Also, I am running 15-40 Rotella T, so I dont agree with having to change the oil, unless you really want too, yes it does help to use 5-40 syn, but I didnt find it to be nessicary. To each there own.

I had this same issue and these are the steps I took that seem to fix the issue. Of cousre there are always others out there that will argue to go another route, but this is probably the cheapest route. Also, if your block heater is not helping with the issue, it could be bad too. Usually the block heater will help.

When its cold and sputtering, does it also not accelerate fast if you lay down the hammer? Mine did that too.

hope this helped, sorry for the long response.

Thank you everyone for the helpful information. I will keep updated and let you all know what is going on with it.
