Finally made the switch.

I have been using Motorcraft 15w-40 since the truck was brand new. The first two winters i had the truck it was garaged, so cold starts werent an issue (and neither were stray cats on the hood!!) This winter it wont fit in the garage due to the leveling kit and 35's so she has been outside this winter. On cold mornings 15-30*, it starts fine but it would rev up to 1000 rpms and run rough for about 2-3 seconds and clear out. Changed oil Wed and dropped some Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. Much better starts the past 2 mornings, and along with my 2 cycle oil/diesel kleen regiment, this truck absolutely idles like a CHAMP!!! The motors tone and feel is just amazing now. I have found my new favorite oil!!

I just switched to Rotella 5w40 synthetic had to buy it from a Shell supplier and I will get oil sampling to see how long before the need to change the oil also installed a bypass filter and I also love it the cold starting has been much smoother.

I made the same switch a few weeks ago! I think the truck likes it a lot. Cold starts are not an issue now.

Made the switch to 5-40 Rott last oil change as well.

Works great, proven by myself two weeks ago to -45 degrees.......I wish the fuel worked as well though at that temp!!!

I am going to make the switch on the next change as well. My only concern is...has anyone opened up a can of worms as far as creating leaks with the synthetc oil? This is my only concern with switching from dino to synthetic. I already have the oil and cant wait to change it.

There have been a lot of threads I have seen over the last 3 years asking this question. In all cases, the advice was - there will be no issues with leaks. I must say I have never read a post that stated that a leak developed after switching to synthetic from dino in the 6.0L. The modern seal materials make this a thing of the past IMO. Now - that being said, the 6.0L certainly has had its issues with leaks - with or without synthetic oil (as you well know).

If you are leak free now, I think you will be quite fine after switching.

The only leak I have now is from the drain plug gasket. I will fix that with the Fumoto Valve...so then I will have no leaks. I will be switching within the next week.

Thanks Bismic,

I don't notice anymore leakage than I had before the switch.
