Check out the explanation on a Saginaw gear box below. From what I understand, it is very similar to ours. The author includes an exploded diagram which can help you visualize what's going on inside.
Might as well show y'all the others, you can plainly see where this box failed. Came out of our '01 and had never been touched. Went back with a Redhead, not impressed.
Well, maybe I was a bit harsh. I have no problems with it, it just didn't wow me. The OEM boxes I've bought from Ford seemed just as tight and smooth, plus I get them cheaper and it's local. I'm not dissatisfied with the redhead, just wasn't really "sold" on it either.
I can understand that, Izzy. The only comparisons I've seen were always in relation to the sloppy used units we have in our trucks. Never had anyone compare the Redhead with a brand new OEM unit. I'll have to think this over a bit more before I commit to any purchases. You have to admit, though, the description of what Redhead is supposed to be doing in terms of standardizing clearnaces and custom machining should make a difference, but perhaps the difference isn't great enough to justify the extra $$.
