The engine temp gauge on my dash hasn't worked since precisely when the water pump was replaced. I took it back to the shop that did the work and they said offhand it doesn't look like there was anything left unplugged.
Anybody have a possible explanation for this 'coincidence'?
What is the temp gauge doing? It is a simple sender that is used. The one thing they may have done is damaged it and replaced it. There is a very specific sender to use in that location. take the connector off of the sender and look to see if it is new. Maybe they picked up the wrong one.
THANKS! The temp gauge doesn't do anything...the needle just sits at the bottom of the dial. i don't really know what to look for as far as the sender and connector go.
Is this something that I could find and fix myself? I'm not much of a mechanic.
Have you pulled the coolant temp sensor connector and checked it out. They may have bent one of the pins in the sensor and caused a no connect. Maybe they didn't get it fully seated or broke a wire.
The sender is a simple thread out and thread in sender. You will want to drain the coolant or be really quick (ON A COLD ENGINE ONLY). Simply disconnect the connector and look at it for damage. Best thing to do is snap a photo of it and post it here. Maybe we can give some input on it too.
