Well I have a problem that has ocurred, horn quit working, cruise button on steering wheel quit, steering wheel radio controls don't work, and fan speed button on steering wheel dosen't work. Also I might add Air Bag Light is on. In other words everything dead on steering wheel.
My thoughts are CLOCKSPRING has gone bad, anyone else have an opinion? Thanks in advance.
Definitely sounds like that's the problem. In fact, I think the entire cable thing in there broke off somewhere, because everything is broken. If it were a plug/wire issue, you'd still have buttons OR the airbag, but probably not both. They use separate plugs/harnesses.
It isn't hard to change as long as you have a steering wheel puller. Disconnect battery, wait about 20 mins (in case the airbag does somehow have power), remove airbag, pull wheel, pull steering column plastic trim, remove clockspring and wiring. Then do it all backwards with the new clockspring. Make sure the new clockspring is centered, especially if it's a used one.
I'd say, excluding the wait time, probably 20 minutes tops for me to pull it apart and reassemble, but I've done them all a number of times. Maybe a half hour or so for you, but hopefully it shouldn't take more than an hour.
