I have seen several threads describing how to fix the overhead computers, but none on installing them in a vehicle that did not have one to start. I ordered all the parts in a kit and they came with some instructions, however they are lacking. More pics and wiring diagrams than written directions. Normally that would be exactly what I want, however in this situation I need a little more info. The main thing I am trying to figure out is the location and size of the hole I will need to cut in the headliner as well as info on removing the headliner. I have clearance lights on top of the cab so I don't really want to just start cutting into the headliner and cut up the wiring.
DId you get the old bird computer kit? I put one in mine and had no trouble.. I did go with the temp sensor and picked up the VSS wire to make it work correctly.
I just followed the instructions and it worked just fine.. Just took a lot of measuring to make sure the template was centered.. Checked it about 4 times before i cut..

No I bought it from these guys. Ford Truck Parts - Full Warranty On All Ford Truck Parts The problem is their aren't really any instructions for where to cut the headliner. A few pics but they leave me with questions. Do you remember the measurements by chance
i put mine in place, double checking with the position of the locking tabs and cutr a small hole.
then slowly expanded the hole till it fit.
took 4 or 5 cuts to get a decent fit.
I placed the outer shell into position and made measurements on that.. Once I got it centered and squared, I taped around it with blue painters tape. I then placed the cutting template up and worked that until it was centered. Then cut. No real measurements were taken, just centered and spaced correctly.
Here is a picture of inside my cab with the computuer I installed... Its for a different thread about my cab lights but you can see the computer.
