** Overhead Trip Computer Install Tips **

Well I am a newbie here and own a 2003 XLT Excursion. I popped open the overhead console to find a wiring harness in the location where a trip computer would be. Any thoughts?? Can I just buy a trip computer from a junkyard or dealer, plug it in and go? Or are there other mods that I need to do to make this work properly? Thanks in advance.....

You won't have the outside temp. You need the sensor for that. It mounts on the front of the radiator on the driver's side. Mine has the wire harness for it even though I don't have the trip computer either. You might want to check the front of yours to see if you have the harness for that sensor.

Other than that you should be good to go.

Does anyone know if an 01 trip computer works with an 03 X? The connector is the same although I would have to flip it around...the wire colors look different too.

If you have the auto temp (digital) a/c system the external temp is display there - not in the overhead.

I have used a trip computer from what I believe was from 00/01 in my 04 limited. It works fine for the mileage/miles to empty indicator.

There was a major electrical/wiring change after 2001 so some things may work and others may not regardless of wire colors (if the connectors are the same) starting with 2002 trucks.
