Nice write up! I have a question for you though, do the horns still sound softer than a late model horn? I'm wondering if my horn on my truck just sounds "puny" like sleepy said because it was made that way, or its worn out? I was behind a texter the other day and I beeped and they didn't even look up cos my horn was so soft.
I don't know that I'd call mine soft, but they don't have an incredibly crisp tone. I like the sound though.
I agree with devino, it's not crisp. Mike, how does your horn compare with late model? Is it the same loudness and shrillness or is it a little softer?

I also have a 2000 and a 2007 F150 and compared the horns (wonder what the neighbors thought?.......nah, not really!). The Pumpkin's horns don't sound quite as shrill as the later horns, but as far as loudness goes, they sounded about the same to me.
Figured I'd post a follow up on the horns and show what they look like detailed and installed.
One minor snag I ran into was the wire that goes across the top of the radiator to the driver's side horn.
The one I had was in pretty ratty looking shape, lots of kinks and covered with black spray paint. NOS ones are not available because Ford never sold these over the counter. In the parts catalog is the note to make from bulk material.
I straightened out all the kinks by running it between my fingers I don't know how many times.
The only thing that was effective in removing the paint was acetone. Unfortunately this also removed the green trace on the wire too. I was trying to figure out a way to fix this short of trying to find another wire. Figured it out. A green "sharpie" and a steady hand came in handy.
Don't know how it will hold up in the long run but for now it looks pretty good.
For some reason, the PO of my truck had replaced that wire and just had it hanging there. I ended up running a fishtape through the cavity over the radiator and pulling the wire through. Nice and clean.
Thanks for the write up.
I have a 66 F100, which has horns that dont work. I took one apart and tried to get it to work, with no luck. I have continunity from the postive terminal to the contact under the long arm which is adjustable with a phillips screwdriver. Should i be adjusting the this so the two are in contact or not?

Hey Ben,
With no power I believe the contacts should be closed.
One thing you should check is for continuity at the coil. Its possible that the coil windings have a break. If the coil is good it should show minimal resistance.
That’s dedication. I have the two from my truck sitting on my bench right now because the wernt working . Just replaced them with a horn from a forklift. Maybe I’ll tray into them
