I just finished what was an attempt to repair a leak caused by a worn manual shift seal. Everything went ok, i replaced the seal and o ring, by dropping the valve body, removing the 7/8" nut, removing the inner and outer shafts, replacing the seals, returning all the parts back to ther original places/ positions, torquing, to specs, i even flushed the torque converter by disconecting the in line to the cooler and running an extra 4 quarts thru it slowly,( with the engine running ) thru into a bucket. and returning hose to the cooler. The leak is gone of course, however it wont shift, by that i mean i cant move the shift lever its stuck. The kickdown shaft is free. I showed in the attached pick where i lined up the shift, and kickdown levers/ buttons. I checked to make sure they were in there proper places b4 i buttoned it up. i have some picks with captions of what i did in my album 5 of 5 ( tranny leak ). What did i overlook? I would apreciate any help. the trany is an early C4, thanks
It was 10 yrs ago I had to do the exact same job on a Maverick, and had the exact same problem. All I can remember is that it was one of the levers that can rotate was not staying in place as I put the valve body back up. (I assume you are doing this with the trans in the truck?) Good luck!!
Sorry to keep this thread around like this, but looking at the attchment does it appear that where i have penciled in red, does it look as if the manual detent spring rod (7E332 )has a patrusion or tit, that is suposed to sit in the vally of the manusl detent lever (7A115 )? This part( 7A115 ) fell out and maybe thats where i went wrong.
Here is a pic of what i overlooked, when reasembeling the shift shafts. What you are lookinng at is where the manual detent spring shaft sits in th groove of the manual valve detent lever. Its easy for it to fall out of place when the manual shift, kickdown shaft is removed to replace the external seal, like it did to me. I wanted to add this to the thread, in case someone else researches this repair. I will also correct my personel album. Sorry but you will have to zoom out to get a clear pic .
