Will the 1995 E40D work in the 1993? In the interchange manuals it shows the 92,3,4 the same and the 1995 and 1996 different for the 5.8 4x4 automatic trans. Am I missing something or will the 1995 bolt in a 1994 or in this case 1993?
Yes I will have to tear down the whole tranny to swap output shafts all because of one snapring reatainer on the shaft. But as I said, it gives me a chance to check everything out and maybe make an upgrade or two like swapping from bushing to bearing.
And I'm pretty sure everything will bolt right up. I compared the housings and electrical. All looks good to go....I hope!! Gonna get started on it this evening...will let ya know what I found.

Yes bolts are the same as long as you have right bellhousing' there are three the 5.0/5.8, the big block gas, and the diesel. My information is the solenoid pac and MLPS are different you must use the 1994 version of both. Ford moved the diodes to the PCM in 1995 so if you don't use the 1994 solenoid pac you will not have the diodes to protect the PCM.
Same vein harness is different too. If its just bolt in then Hollander's and all exchange manuals are wrong they all list 92, 93, and 94 as the same but NOT interchanging with 1995. Let us know what you find.
Thanks for the input. All the "hard parts" are good to go. I'll do some research on the electronics so I don't fry anything but I can allways just swap my smart guts into the new tranny. Mine was a mechanical failure because my temper and foot got too heavy on the gas while rocking the truck. Once again..no expert at all...that's why I'm happy for you all's input.

Ok..it's toast. I popped out the pump, which itself is busted and took a look. The coast clutch is gone, nothing left but two handfuls of castiron. The main housing is badly scored and banged up. The overdrive planetary is in pieces along with the overdrive clutchpack and piston. Sooooo anyone have a spare E4OD laying around their backporch???
Hi JeffKayers, do you have any photos of the carnage that you could share? I have the '92 E4OD tranny, and wonder what it looks like inside...even one that is a bit damaged. -thx
For grateful_carl I don't have any results yet..thought I was gonna have time to dig in to it but I do a little work on the side from my regular job so now I'm tearing down the top end in a 763 Bobcat. As soon as I finish that up I'll be back into my truck. Have to go with what pays...lol
And for the last post about pics of the carnage from the tranny. I haven't taken any yet but I will make sure I do before I tear it down any farther. It's brutal.....Gotta love it!
