Have you checked the Vacumn advance on the Dist.? Pull the hose off the advance and suck on it, to see if the point plate moves
Yeah, a ruptured vacuum advance diaphragm will give flat performance.
OP - Are we still having the same symptoms of it running poorly (or not at all) when it warms up?
Can you be more descriptive about it lacking power when you put your foot in it?? Like, are you saying you suddenly floor it and it hesitates before taking off? Or, you can push the throttle quickly or slowly (doesn't matter) and it reacts the same? Is this with cold or warm engines? Or, what?
Alright Fuel pump is pumping fuel ! it runs and drives but not right , if i barely hold my foot on the throttle it wants to run right , but if i put my foot in it , its lacking power
Check and make sure you have the correct fuel filler cap. Systems that have evap. emission controls don't use a vented cap. If this cap is used on a truck that doesn't have evap. emissions then you'll start having drivability problems.
If your truck DOESN'T have a charcoal canister attached to the frame rail below the battery, you need to use a vented cap. If it has the canister, the cap doesn't need to be vented. The tank vents through the evap. emission control system.
Another possibility is the pick up coil in the distributor.
I need to make a line for that to the intake manifold , the larger inlet on the canister is blocked off with a kink what does that go to
There are three "outlets" on top of the canister. The smallest one (5/16") goes to the line that runs back to the fuel tank. The middle one is a vent and should have a little "umbrella" cap on it. The third (3/4") is the line that runs to a plastic fitting on the side of the air cleaner housing.
Here is the illustration from the Ford parts catalog showing the evaporative emission control system.
Also, here's a picture of the top of the canister showing the vent cap.
Note: In the catalog illustration it kinda looks like the vent hose goes to the center "port". It doesn't, it goes to the large port to the side.
