I installed a fuel pressure gage in the port on the driver side of the fuel bowl. I was getting 65+ at idol, and above 60 at wot. Within the last week it is now 63 or so at idol and at wot it will go down to 55 no problem. I see I have issues but my main question is, will my fuel pressure gage read the restriction of the factory filter or is it showing the restriction of my prepump filter and pickup in the tank? I did look at my prepump filter and I do see what looks kinda like fine sand particles. It doesn't look like enough to restrict the flow. Am I on the right path? or could my low fuel pressure be caused by something else?
If that's the case then I am thinking I must have a restriction in the tank? or prepump filter? or my fuel pump is on its way out? I did run down to 1/8 tank of fuel the other day witch I have done many times before. Unless when I filled up I got dirty fuel?
From what I've read when researching this subject it doesn't seem that the pumps gradually fail very often, more of a works-then-doesn't failure mode. If you still have the intank screens that would be a potential restriction (clogged). Low tank might have allowed more accumulated debris to be sucked up.
Fuel Pressure Regulator opens to vent off the pressure prior to being cycled through the factory filter. Book Pressure is 51 + - 4. Mechanical regulator ball and spring. I wonder if it is just the spring showing its age.
If it was me, I would install a gauge post any filters. You still have the tank screens?
I have a FRX that went in the day I put in the pressure gage so I hope the spring isn't weak. I do have the in tank screens. I just put a breaker bar to the bed bolts and they all came loose. Hopefully the gooseneck bolts come loose. Looks like the hutch/ harpoon mod is in my near future. I just want to know for sure it's the in tank screens that is causing my low pressure before I pull my bed to get to the tank. I have a 200 mile trip on Easter to see family. I have to make sure I make it and not brake down.
If you wanted to test that before pulling the bed you could run a hose from the prepump filter inlet into a jug of diesel and check the fuel pressure at idle.
I have the CCK version, I am not sure how the FRx works.
My screens looked decent, Dads on the other hand were so clogged i was surprised the motor ran. Your pressures are in spec though, could be your FRX, gauge or pump on the Fritze. But a definitely a "do" mod to get rid of those screens. What pre-pump filter do you have?

My prepump filter is the little clear one that I got the part number from this site. Its the common one that many people on here use.I believe it came from napa. It's basically a screen.
The little glass one? Dad has one also, I had one but recently move into a spin on filter only because i was bored. The glass ones worked pretty well and you can clean them out as long as they didn't get to dirty.
you can do the fuel tank mods without pulling the bed, little guy like myself had no problems without any help, used old elect. fuel pump to empty tank.pretty easy project.
