Question about upfitter switches

Since the upfitters only work when the ignition is in the run(on) position, are there any negative effects to having the key in the on position without the engine running? For example, can it hurt any components such as glow plugs or other electronics? I often use my back up lights with the engine off, but since I cant run the upfitters while the keys are in the accessory position, I have to leave the keys in the run position. I hear the glow plugs can draw like 90amps too.

You can modify the upfitter switches so that they will work at all times!

You just need to pull the upfitter relay out of the main fusebox and replace it with a jumper wire between the terminal that has full time power and the terminal that feeds the upfitter switches.

Great idea but....

What size wire would you recommend for this? I was interested in doing the same but would be concerned about putting too small of a wire in here and creating a fire hazard. Any idea?

You only need maybe 12-14ga wire to do this.

The relay in the main fusebox is for activating the switches only, so there is not much load on it.
Each upfitter switch has it's own separate relay to power whatever load you are using it for.
