The transmission starting showing slippage codes in my f250, its a 90 f250 2wd with the 7.3, my question is i have a transmission i pulled from a wrecked 93 e350 with the same 7.3 that had been rebuilt and only has 5,000 miles on it, Banks sells a Trans Command for these e4od transmissions, but it advertises as only being for the 92-98? i thought these transmissions were all the same from 90-98? until they came out with the 4r100
im looking at putting a turbo on the truck im just worried about the e4od holding up to the power difference
First off I'm not an auto guy so take this for what it's worth. From what I've read the Banks Trans Command raises the line pressures, which is not good for these trannys. A lot of guys up in the OBS Stroke forum say it is not the way to go.
Again from what Iv'e read, a good rebuilt tranny should have all the upgraded parts in it, so I would sthink it woul be good to go the turboed motor.
Yea i def. dont wont to raise the line pressure, when that overdrive light is flashing it shifts like somebody is plowing into the back of the truck
the thing that gets me about this trans is when i hook the snap on scan tool to it and run both koeo and koer test there are no transmission codes in the thing, you can drive it 30+ miles one second and the overdrive light never flashes and it shifts fine, then other times you can drive it maybe 2 miles and the light will start flashing and it starts slamming gears, i friend of mine use to work at ford years ago said its probably picking up slippage in the transmission even though i can feel it
the transmission is original with 167,000 on it and ive heard the horror stories about the e4od thats why im figuring on the transmission on its way out the door
over 370k on my E4OD without touching it. Not all of them are bad. Make sure you have the go pedal pinned to the floor when pulling codes or youll get code 62. Does your tach and speedo work flawlessly? Sounds to me like it might be a bad wire somewhere or something.
likely is a bad wire or two.could be corrosion of the connectors too.
i would clean up all the plugs and inspect them closely.
then id drive the truck with the code reader with me.once she starts flashing, pull right over to get the code road side.then you'll know where to focus.
my tach does jump around when the engine is cold but its been doing that for a while, once the engine is warmed up it stops jumping, i dropped the transmission pan, no metal in the pan, so i went ahead and serviced it, i will go ahead and check the safety switch and the rear abs sensor, does that truck have the VSS or does it use the abs sensor for that?

Check the tach sensor..
It dose have a VSS. You will find it on the tailshaft of the tranny. Your speedometer cable goes through it.
