My 93 250 I bought years ago was originally a 5 speed from the factory. A friend of mine had the exact same truck but his was an e4od. He wanted the manual and I wanted the auto. So we parked the side by side and swapped. The only difference in the trucks was mine is 3.55 and his is 4.10. The e4od he said was rebulit by a guy in our area that was real good with the e4od specificly. And I rode with him pulling a gooseneck at about 10,000 lbs total trailer. And it shifted good. Now eversince the swap which has been about 4 years ago. The trans has always slammed in gear. And seemed to hold a gear to long and down shift to soon. I have set the FLPS properly and checked it several times. But it slams in to gear so hard that it makes the dash shake. Could it be programming in the pcm. Also could it be the speedomter calibration. Or could the rebuilder have put a gas engine shift solenoid pack in a diesel trans.
There is no such thing as a gas engine solenoid pack. All solenoid packs are the same. Speedometer calibration doesn't affect the shifting. If the PCM came from the same truck as the transmission, then it isn't the programming.
Do you have the OD OFF button and light working? Does the light turn on when you press the button? Has the light been flashing?
Something is wrong, and it most likely will be pointed out by error codes. You'll need to read the codes to find out what's wrong here.
Forgot to mention proper working od off button. No blinking and no codes. Hooked to it with my snapon scan tool and nothing obvious. Can the pressure be set in with a trans go kit to high and cause this, i'm not sure there is one in it but the guy that rebuilt it was told to make it better than original.
you'll have to drop the pan and look for a calibration plate under the accumulator valve body.if so,remove it and take a look to see what size the holes were drilled out to.if too large, you'll need another plate from transgo.
im surprised you lived with this for 4 years.
as for this line:
"And seemed to hold a gear to long and down shift to soon"
it's holding onto the gears too long during the upshift but downshifts too easily? what are your FIPL/TPS settings?
x2 there is a code for no codes I hooked mine up to my father-in-laws snapon fancy scanner and it wouldn't read it went to orielly and used there cheap rental one and got my codes.
