Ball Joint Replacement

How much do you guys think a dealership would charge to replace the upper and lower ball joints in an 02 F-250? I don't have anywhere or the time to do it myself. I wish I could. Is there anything else I should replace when doing this?

Yeah it is outrageous. to bad you dont have the time. I bought moog the first time and havent had to pay for a set since. I have done it 2 or 3 times. Not to bad to do really the last time I did have a shop press them out and in just cause I did not feel like messing with em and had something else to do.

I had my tire shop do one side for me several years back when I just did not have the time to do it myself before a trip. Ran about $650. Doing it myself with top quality parts runs around $75-$80 per side for both top, bottom AND an adjustable camber bushing. I've already had to replace the bottom MOOG that the shop put in for me, but all the others I've done with XRF parts are holding up just fine.

Yeah, it takes time, but I've done enough trucks that I don't think it's a big deal any more. About 4-5 hours total including beverage breaks for both sides.

WAY better than paying a shop to do it....

I replaced both sides on my truck a couple of years ago. I used XRF and I think I got them from The Tire Club. I had never installed Ball Joints before, but it went well.I did borrow a friends Hyd. Press. I of coarse did the seals at this time also. Followed RacerGuy's post below.

I just had mine done (I hate doing ball joints) for the 4th time. Truck has 160K+ miles.

Been using MOOG's for the past several sets, and they keep failing. I hear that the XRF's are really good. Also heard that the Spicer/Raybestos ones are good too, and that's what I went with this time.

I'm done with MOOG. They're crap on a lifted truck.

My Dad lives in Wenatchee and I have seen this shop.
Don't know how good they are, but you will usually get a better job and a better price at an independant garage.
Whenever I drive past them they have a lot of pickups in the front.

Here's another good write-up for Ball Joint R&R.

Here's the LINK for his other write-ups.

His home page is WWW.SUPERDUTYPSD.COM.

A lot of good info and he is an FTE member.

XRF Chassis parts... XRF Chassis | Automotive and Heavy Duty Chassis Parts | Ball Joints

They are not US made, but come with a million mile warranty. I've been very satisfied. Like I said earlier, they have outlasted the Moogs that my tire shop installed for me, and they are serviceable and come with zerks.

IIRC, the cost was in the neighborhood of $28-$32 each.
