I have a 2002 7.3 diesel bone stock. Just recently replaced the injector cups and injector O rings so a huge thanks to everyone that had write ups on this. Since the injector cup replacement I have had blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust when I start the truck up in the morning and anytime after it has been sitting a few hours. Idle is rough at first as soon as it warms up smoke disappears and truck is running smooth again. I have read and searched the forum for any information and it seems a few people are having the same issue but, I have not found any fixes. Also I am not getting any codes and my gas mileage has dropped considerably. Any information or help is appreciated.
My 2002 does the same thing. I am waiting for my cups and O rings and replacement tool from Clay. Its all supposed to be here Tuesday so I am going to do the injector cups next weekend I hope. I have fuel in my coolant as well as the blue smoke at start up when cold. I was hoping that replacing the cups would fix the fuel in coolant and the blue smoke when engine is cold. Was your truck doing this prior to doing the cups? How many miles have you put on the truck since replacing the injector cups? Did you have the injectors tested? I am really curious to see what your problem is incase mine does the same thing. Sorry I am no help but I really hope that you figure out what your problem is.
Welcome to FTE. How long does it smoke and is it only when it is cold? It is not uncommon for these trucks to run a little rough when they are cold and puff a bit of blue smoke till cylinders are warmed up especially if the truck has not been plugged in and if the glow plugs are not working properly.

The truck never smoked at start up until after the injector cup replacement. I did not replace the glow plugs or I did not have the injectors tested. Everything was working as it should when I started the replacement of the cups so I left it as it was. Now I am thinking I should have gone ahead and replaced the glow plugs and at least had the injectors tested. I have put on about 2500 miles since the cup replacement. No more fuel in the coolant which was a good thing but now even if I plug the truck in I still have blue smoke for a few minutes on cold start ups. Good luck with you cup replacement wasn't too hard just time consuming...A lot of good write ups on the cup replacement on this forum.

Thank you, It only smokes for a few minutes if that and I have only noticed it since it has gotten cold. It does run rough when first start in the morning but after a few minutes everything is good. It still smokes even if I plug the truck in. Hoping it is nothing serious as I am not getting any codes on the engine but the blue smoke has me baffled. I am going to Ohm out the injectors and the glow plugs and check the GPR. I will update you once I get a chance to check everything out.

Did you replace the injector O rings when you did your cups?

Yes I did replace all the injector O rings. Oiled them up really good replaced smeared oil around the injectors as not to tear any O rings everything went back together flawlessly. Thanks again to FTE and the excellent write ups.
