Lightweight homeplow snow plow

HI,
I'd like to mount a snow plow on my Excursion to maintain a long driveway which is roughly 1000' of blue stone and then 800' of asphalt.
I've read some threads about snow plows on Excursions and most talk about the need to upgrade the suspension/springs.
I recently looked at some lighter snowplows, such as the Meyer homeplow, which is only 241 pounds. Since this plow weighs so little, and my main purpose of this plow is to maintain my long driveway and other drives in my neighborhood, would my excursion be ok without having to upgrade the springs? Any thoughts??

OK.....you likely need springs already......common problem with the Excursion...check your front bump stops and read up on the V/B spring conversion if you don't want to lift it....after that ....no worries on the plow......stock springs cant handle the Ex ....let alone the plow

Really? I thought the diesel option was quite a bit heavier, be it the 7.3 or the 6.0 as compared to the V10.

Diesel is heavier, look into front v-codes springs for light duty plow or x codes for heavy plows.

diesel almost 500lbs heavier up front, this is based on 2002, 7.3 verses 6.8

If it's just your own driveway look into a rear hitch plow, had a neighbor with one growing up behind his Tahoe, it did a pretty nice job, held up for over five years in Western new York lake effect, knowing him he's still using it to. Just trying to remember the name of who made it...... I'll search for it when I'm not on my phone.

OK I will look further into the spring upgrades, any thoughts on airbag supplement instead.

You also need to check out plowsite.com. Snowplow forum that is really popular. Best place to find Excursions with plows.
