The primary difference between the Ex and an F250/350 are springs. The Ex came with softer springs for the soccer mom's. If memory serves me... (getting tougher at my age ) the F250 with plow package comes with X code springs up front. Before I would use the Ex to plow, I would upgrade the springs all the way around.
This year is the first year but I will say this. I have been able to do stuff plowing with this thing that I was not able to do in our old plow truck, 87 Dodge short box. One drawback was when the plow was installed it pulled the front end down a little bit so I convinced my boss that we had to have airbags installed on the front end to help support it. That led to another problem, it made the front end higher than the rear, but not by much, so we had an airbag kit installed on the rear. It really didn't need the airbags at all but I told the boss it did so I could get a little bit of a lift on the truck. There was a spot on the plow frame that the front drivers spring was hitting so I took an angle grinder to shape the frame a bit. Other than that, it's working just great.
i got a boss v on my truck. I also have a diesel so i has the springs re arched and helpers added to the front. my truck sits level with the plow on or off and rides great. As for how it plows i love it no problems at all i just wish i has a limited slip rear end.
I have a 02 X diesel and tried to get a plow for it and a few places told me that they wouldn't do it because Ford advise against it. Said it was to much weight on the frontend. Could damage the axles. I went to my ford dealer and the owner told me that its basically a TRUCK, and not to worry. They also pointed me to a Blizzard snow plow dealer. He couldn't find a specific set up for my truck, so he installed a 8 foot plow for a F250. I've had it for the last 2 winters with no problems. The truck is an absolute animal. I would sugest getting Timbrens for the front springs.
